Being Christian

I can not help reflecting on the fact that just last Sunday I was sharing the challenge of being a Christian in a messed up world.

In a world that seems to be increasingly consumed with anger and violence it becomes easy, even understandable to want to go inside, lock the doors and arm ourselves against the evils of the world.

The reality is that is not what Jesus has called us to be or do. The need has never been greater and the call never louder to be the face of Christ in a world that so desperately needs it.

We may not have the ability to change the whole world but that is not what God requires of us. Simple acts of kindness, compassion, mercy and forgiveness have a profound ripple effect the results of which we may never fully experience. It states in Hebrew 11:1 – Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

I pray that we may all be filled with God’s power and spirit. Trusting that like Moses and others God will give us the words to say and the way to go as we venture out like the disciples from our protected upper rooms into this messy world.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone whose lives have been touched by this weeks tragic acts of violence

Peace be with you.
